Deductions, benefits and employer costs
Add benefits, pensions, union dues and employer costs like workers' compensation to payroll.
Updated October 26, 2026
CPP, EI and income tax are calculated by Ledgri for every province. Everything else that comes off a paycheque, or that the company pays on top, is set up in Payroll → Deductions & taxes.
Add a deduction (taken from pay)
Under Other deductions, click Add. Examples: group benefits, a pension plan, union dues.
- Give it a Name.
- Choose how it's Worked out as: a percentage of gross pay (Rate (%)) or a Fixed amount per pay (Amount per pay).
- Optionally set a Yearly maximum per employee.
- Owed to (liability account) is where the money waits until you pay it to the provider.
- Click Save.
Add an employer cost (paid by the company)
Under Other employer costs, click Add. Examples: workers' compensation (WSIB in Ontario), the employer health tax, or the company's share of benefits. These also need a Company cost (expense account).
Your province's workers' compensation premium (for example WSIB in Ontario) is added for you. In Ontario and British Columbia, the Employer Health Tax is added too, switched off: switch it on if your payroll is over the exemption.
New deductions apply to new pay runs. Switch one off with Use in new pay runs.
