Record a payment from a customer

Mark invoices paid, in full or in part, and put the money in the right account.

Updated October 26, 2026

  1. Open the invoice and click Record payment, or go to Sales → Payments received.
  2. Enter the payment date, the amount, and where it was deposited to.
  3. Choose the method (e-Transfer, cheque, cash and so on) and add a reference if you have one.
  4. If the customer has several open invoices, spread the payment across them.
  5. Click Save payment.

The invoice shows Partly paid or Paid. A paid invoice drops off your Aged receivables.

Imported your bank statement already? Don't record the payment twice. In Banking → Transactions, use Match on the deposit instead. See Review bank transactions.

Recorded it by mistake? Open the payment and void it. The invoice goes back to unpaid.
